First-aid measures

If inhaled: If experiencing any discomfort, remove to fresh air and obtain medical attention if discomfort does not disappear immediately.

If in eyes: Immediately flush eyes with large amounts of water or eyewash solution, occasionally opening eyelids, until no evidence of chemical remains. Remove contact lenses after a few minutes and flush again. Get medical attention immediately.

If on skin: Immediately remove contaminated clothing and

footwear and wash with water and soap. Get medical attention if irritation develops.

If swallowed: Inducing vomiting is not recommended. Let the exposed person rinse mouth and drink a few glasses of water or

milk. If vomiting occurs, rinse mouth and drink fluids again. Get medical attention immediately.

Note to physician: There is no specific antidote against this substance. After decontamination, treatment is symptomatic and supportive as indicated. Gastric lavage and administration of activated charcoal can be considered.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media: Dry chemical, carbon dioxide, water spray or foam.

Procedures: If required, keep fire-exposed containers cool with water spray. Fight fire from maximum possible distance. Avoid heavy hose streams. In case of large fire, firemen should wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing.

Hazardous products in a fire: The essential breakdown products are carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.

Accidental release measures

Personal protection: Observe all protection and safety precautions when cleaning up spills.

Steps to be taken in case of spill: Spills on the floor or other impervious surface should be swept up with an absorptive material such as universal binder, Fuller’s earth or other absorbent clays. Collect the contaminated absorbent in a suitable, closable container for disposal.

Handling and storage

Precautions to be taken in handling: Personal protection:

Respiratory protection: Provide local exhaust ventilation system.

Protective gloves: Wear chemical resistant gloves such as barrier laminate, butyl rubber, nitrile rubber or viton.

Eye protection: Wear safety glasses. It is recommended to have an emergency eye wash fountain immediately available in the work area, if the possibility of eye contact exists.

Other protection: Wear appropriate chemical resistant clothing.

Precautions to be taken in storing: No special precautions required

Work/hygienic practices: Avoid inhalation of vapour or dust. Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Avoid repeated or prolonged contact.

Always wash hands with water and soap after handling.

Environmental protection: Avoid release to the environment.

Stability and reactivity

Thermal stability: Do not decompose at heating up to 160°C but enollacton decay at temperatures over 80°C.

Conditions to avoid: No known

Hazardous decomposition products: The essential breakdown products are carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.

Reactivity: Sulforic acid facilitates decomposition of enollacton at elevated temperatures.

Disposal considerations

Dispose of in accordance with all applicable regulations.
