Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No toxic effects up to the limit of water solubility (< 0.05 mg/L in aqua dest) for Desmodesmus subspicatus (OECD 201, limit test)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

One study investigating the toxicity of 2-Butenedioic acid (E)-, di-C18 -22-alkyl esters (CAS 68921-53-9) to freshwater algae is available. The static limit test was conducted according to GLP and OECD guideline 201 using Desmodesmus subspicatus as test organism (Falk, 2012). The loading rate of 100 mg/L and a control was performed with six replicates per treatment. Test solutions were prepared by stirring 100 mg test item (fused at 60 °C) per 980 mL test medium for 72 hours to achieve a saturated concentration. The insoluble particles of the test item were separated from the liquid phase by filtration through a filter with ≤ 0.45 µm mean pore size. The resulting filtrate was used as limit test concentration. As the water solubility of the test substance was below the limit of quantification of the laboratory (< 0.05 mg/L), no monitoring of test substance concentration was performed. Between the control and the test substance treatment no significant differences in algae growth were observed. Therefore, the ErL50/ErL10 (72 h) for growth rate is determined to be > 100 mg/L (nominal).
