Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Combustion is initiated near the wire but the reaction stops when the power is turned off. The reaction is incomplete.

Therefore, yttrium trinitrate is not considered as an oxidising material according to the UN method in place in 1995.

The mixture of yttrium trinitrate / cellulose in the ratio 4/1 does not burn.
The mixture of yttrium trinitrate / cellulose in the ratio 1/1 burns with little flames. All the burning times are higher than those of the reference mixture.

According to these results, yttrium trinitrate is not considered as oxidiser and should not be classified under Division 5.1.
Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
Yttrium trinitrate gave a negative result according to the UN method in place in 1995 and according to the current method.
Yttrium trinitrate is not considered as an oxidiser.

Description of key information

Lodel (1995; Klimisch 1) studied the oxidising properties of yttrium trinitrate according to UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods (Manual of Tests and Criteria, Third edition, 1995). The substance was observed not to be oxidising.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
no

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Yttrium trinitrate was demonstrated not to have oxidising properties and thus needs not to be classified for this endpoint according to the CLP criteria.
