Additional information

Data on the toxicity of cetrimonium bromide have been obtained for all aquatic endpoints. The lowest toxicity was obtained for Phosphobacterium phosphoreum with a EC50 value of 0.63 mg/L. Fish seem to be marginally more sensitive. LC50 (96h) values are obtained for four different freshwater fish species, Danio rerio, Oryzia latipes, Oncorhynchus mykiss and Pimephales promelas, the LC50 values varied between 0.1-0.28 mg/L. Aquatic invertebrates seem to be even more sensitive than fish, with EC50 and NOEL at 26 and 23 µg/L for short and long-term studies, respectively. Freshwater microalgae seem to be the most sensitive species, with EC50 and NOEC values for growth at 4.11 and 1.1 µg/L, respectively.
