4-Vinylpyridine (4VP) has been investigated in acute aquatic toxicity studies in fish, invertebrates and in algae. All acute EC50 values are over 1 mg/L. The most sensitive acute value is in fish, where the LC50 is 1.04 mg/L. A ciliate growth inhibition assay on Tetrahymena resulted in a 60-hour IGC50 of 9 mg/L. These values indicate that 4VP may be considered to be toxic to aquatic organisms.
