Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

First-aid measures

· General information

Instantly remove any clothing soiled by the product.

· After inhalation

In case of unconsciousness bring patient into stable side position for transport.

Supply fresh air and call for doctor for safety reasons.

· After skin contact

Instantly wash with water and soap and rinse thoroughly.

Seek medical treatment.

· After eye contact

Rinse opened eye for several minutes under running water. Then consult doctor.

· After swallowing

Drink copious amounts of water and provide fresh air. Instantly call for a doctor.

Fire-fighting measures

· Suitable extinguishing agents: Use fire fighting measures that suit the environment.

· Special hazards caused by the material, its products of combustion or flue gases: Hydrogen chloride (HCl)

· Protective equipment: Put on breathing apparatus.

· Additional information: Collect contaminated fire fighting water separately. It must not enter drains.

Accidental release measures

Person-related safety precautions: Wear protective equipment. Keep unprotected persons away.

· Measures for environmental protection: Prevent material from reaching sewage system, holes and cellars.

· Measures for cleaning/collecting:

Absorb with liquid-binding material (sand, diatomite, acid binders, universal binders).

Use neutralizing agent.

Dispose of contaminated material as waste.

Ensure adequate ventilation.

Handling and storage

The substance is an intermediate to be used under Strictly Controlled conditions.  Strictly controlled conditions are achieved by the technical design of the process and the equipment which aims at preventing releases in combination with procedural and control technologies.

Only properly trained and authorised personnel must handle the substance.

Substance-handling procedures must be well documented and strictly supervised by the site operator.

· Handling

· Information for safe handling:

Open and handle container with care.

Prevent formation of aerosols.

Wear breathing protection when decanting larger quantities without extractor facilities.

Ensure good ventilation/exhaustion at the workplace.

· Information about protection against explosions and fires: Keep breathing equipment ready.

· Storage

· Requirements to be met by storerooms and containers: Store only in the original container.

· Information about storage in one common storage facility: Store away from foodstuffs.

· Further information about storage conditions:

Keep container tightly sealed.

Must be stored in a collecting room.

· Storage class 8 B

Exposure controls / personal protection

The substance is an intermediate to be used under Strictly Controlled conditions.  Strictly controlled conditions are achieved by the technical design of the process and the equipment which aims at preventing releases in combination with procedural and control technologies.

The substance shall be handled via enclosed systems. Use process enclosures, closed reaction vessels, enclosed and vented charging systems, reaction vessel under-pressure, vessels connected via fixed pipes, capture hoods at handling points in combination with local exhaust ventilation or other engineering controls to prevent exposure. Preferably use automated process control systems to minimise manual interventions

Ensure appropriate exhaust ventilation at all machinery and handling places in order to minimize residual emissions of containing metals.

Ensure storage in sealed packaging on a sealed surface with a drainage collection.

Exhaust air shall be treated in treated in appropriate abatement systems - scrubber or bag filter before release into the atmosphere.

Effluents generated during use or cleaning operations should be collected treated before discharge.

Only properly trained and authorised personnel must handle the substance .

In the case of cleaning and maintenance works, special procedures such as purging and washing must be applied before the system is opened and entered.

Personal protective equipment

· General protective and hygienic measures

Keep away from foodstuffs, beverages and food.

Instantly remove any soiled and impregnated garments.

Wash hands during breaks and at the end of the work.

Avoid contact with the eyes and skin.

· Breathing equipment: Use breathing protection only when aerosol or mist is formed.

· Recommended filter device for short-term use: Combination filter B-P3

· Protection of hands:

Only use chemical protective gloves with CE-labelling of category III.

The glove material has to be impermeable and resistant to the product/ the substance/ the preparation.

· Material of gloves

The selection of the suitable gloves does not only depend on the material, but also on further marks of quality

and varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Nitrile rubber, NBR

PVC gloves

· Eye protection: Tightly sealed safety glasses.

· Body protection: Acid resistant protective clothing

Stability and reactivity

· Thermal decomposition/conditions to be avoided: No decomposition if used according to specifications.

· Dangerous reactions Reacts with metals forming hydrogen

· Dangerous products of composition: Hydrogen chloride (HCl)

Disposal considerations

Where waste is generated, procedural and/or control technologies must be used to minimise emissions and the resulting exposure during purification or cleaning and maintenance procedures

· Recommendation

Must not be disposed of together with household garbage. Do not allow product to reach sewage system.

Contact manufacturer for recycling information.

· European waste catalogue

06 01 06 other acids

· Uncleaned packagings:

· Recommendation: Disposal must be made according to official regulations.
