- Conclusions:
- The log Pow values were determined to be ca. -0.24 for Arctiin and ca. 1.69 for Arctigenin from the test item Arctium lappa extract by the shake flask method and are in good agreement with values determined for the pure substances.
- Executive summary:
The distribution coefficients (octanol/water) for the two main components of Arctium lappa extract (Arctiin and Arctigenin) were determined from pure Arctiin and pure Arctigenin using the shake flask method and the HPLC method. The log Pow for Arctiin and Arctigenin from the test item Arctium lappa extract were determined by the shake flask method.
The log Pow values were determined to be ca. -0.24 for Arctiin and ca. 1.69 for Arctigenin from the test item Arctium lappa extract by the shake flask method.
Log Pow for pure Arctiin as reference substance: -0.21 (shake flask) -0.2 (HPLC)
Log Pow for pure Arctigenin as reference substance: 1.80 (shake flask) 1.60 (HPLC).
