Measured values at different shear rate

The results obtained at 20°C were the following:

Viscosities of the test item measured at 20°C:

Shear rate (1/s)  Viscosity (mPa.s)
 245  84.6
 349.4  84.8
 583.1  85.1
 971.6  85.0

The results obtained at 40°C were the following:

Viscosities of the test item at 40°C:

Shear rate (1/s)  Viscosity (mPa.s)
 583.1 26.5
 971.6  26.7
 1610  26.8
 2705  26.8

The viscosity was constant at all shear rates at both temperatures. The test item was thus considered to be a Newtonian fluid.

Measured values at a constant shear rate

Determination of the viscosity of the test item at a constant shear rate of 583.1 s-1

Temperature  Viscosity (1st measurement)  Viscosity (2nd measurement)  Viscosity (3rd measurement)
 20°C  85.1 mPa.s  85.1 mPa.s  85.1 mPa.s
 40°C  26.5 mPa.s  26.5 mPa.s  26.5 mPa.s
Conclusions:
The dynamic viscosity of the test item at 20°C and 40°C ranged between 26.5 to 85.1 mPa.s at a shear rate from 245 to 2705 s-1.
The test item was considered to be a Newtonian fluid.

The dynamic viscosity of nopol was determined to be:
- 85.1 mPa.s at 20°C ± 0.2°C at constant shear rate of 583 s-1,
- 26.5 mPa.s at 40°C ± 0.1°C at constant shear rate of 583 s-1.
Executive summary:

The determination of the viscosity was performed in accordance with OECD Guideline No 114 “Viscosity of liquids” (October 2012) and with Analytical Method DRT 5230 “Determination of dynamic viscosity with a rotary viscometer Haake VT550 or Rheolab QC”.

The dynamic viscosity of the test item at 20°C and 40°C ranged between 26.5 to 85.1 mPa.s at shear rates from 245 to 2705 s-1.

The test item was considered to be a Newtonian fluid.

The dynamic viscosity of nopol was determined to be:

- 85.1 mPa.s at 20.0°C ± 0.2°C at a constant shear rate of 583 s-1,

- 26.5 mPa.s at 40°C ± 0.1°C at a constant shear rate of 583 s-1.

Description of key information

The dynamic viscosity was determined with a rotational viscometer.
The substance is a Newtonian fluid.

The dynamic viscosity of nopol at a constant shear rate of 583 s-1 is 85.1 mPa.s at 20°C and 26.5 mPa.s at 40°C.
