Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
General advice
In the case of accident or if you feel unwell, seek medical advice immediately (show the label where possible). Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance.
Inhalation
Keep patient warm and at rest. Move to fresh air. Call a physician or poison control center immediately.
Skin contact
Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Wash off thoroughly with plenty of soap and water, if available with polyethyleneglycol 400, subsequently rinse with water. Call a physician or poison control center immediately.
Eye contact
Protect unharmed eye. Call a physician or poison control center immediately. Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present, after the first 5 minutes, then continue rinsing eye.
Ingestion
Do NOT induce vomiting. Call a physician or poison control center immediately. Rinse mouth, ingest activated charcoal.
4.2 Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed
Symptoms
corrosive effects
4.3 Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
Risks
Risk of stomach perforation. Risk of pulmonary oedema.
Treatment
Initial treatment: symptomatic. Oxygen or artificial respiration if needed. In case of ingestion gastric lavage should be considered in cases of significant ingestions only within the first 2 hours. However, the application of activated charcoal and sodium sulphate is always advisable.
Fire-fighting measures
5.1 Extinguishing media
Suitable
Carbon dioxide (CO2), Dry powder
Unsuitable
Water
5.2 Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
In the event of fire the following may be released:, Carbon monoxide (CO), Nitrogen oxides (NOx), Hydrogen chloride (HCl)
5.3 Advice for firefighters
Special protective equipment for firefighters
In the event of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
Further information
Do not allow run-off from fire fighting to enter drains or water courses.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
Precautions
Use personal protective equipment. Ensure adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with spilled product or contaminated surfaces.
6.2 Environmental precautions
Do not allow to get into surface water, drains and ground water. If the product contaminates rivers and lakes or drains inform respective authorities.
6.3 Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up
Methods for cleaning up
Never use water! Allow to solidify. Use mechanical handling equipment. Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal.
Handling and storage
This substance is handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions in accordance with REACH regulation Article 17(3) for on-site isolated intermediates and, in case the substance is transported to other sites for further processing, the substance should be handled at these sites under the Strictly Controlled Conditions as specified in REACH regulation Article 18(4). Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management systems is available at each manufacturing site.
Written confirmation of application of Strictly Controlled Conditions has been received from every affected Distributor and Downstream Processor/User of the Registrant’s intermediate.
Precautions for safe handling
Advice on safe handling
Use only in area provided with appropriate exhaust ventilation.
