The test material was estimated to have a half-life >1 year at pH 4, 7 and 9 at 25 °C.

The test material was determined to be readily biodegradable, but failing the 10-d window.


 


5.2.2 Biodegradation in water and sediment: simulation test

The partition coefficient of the substance was determined in a reliable study (Rudio, 1996) where the measured log Kow was 2.4. Based on this value, the substance is considered to have low potential for absorption to sediment. Furthermore, direct or indirect release to the sediment compartment is considered highly unlikely.


 


Biodegradation in water: simulation testing on ultimate degradation in surface water


The test item is considered to be readily biodegradable, but failing the 10-d window, therefore, the performance of a water simulation study is considered as scientifically unjustified.


 


5.2.3 Biodegradation in soil


In accordance with column 2 of Annex IX of the REACH regulation, the study does not need to be conducted as direct or indirect exposure to the soil compartment is not to be expected considering the use of the substance. The substance is used by professionals and consumers as fragrance in cosmetics, personal care products and aircare products. Besides that, there is a consumer end use of the substance in biocides. The substance is predominantly used indoors. Where an outside widespread end-use takes place, the direct exposure to soil is still negligible taking into account the substance concentration of less than 1 %.  


 


5.3 Bioaccumulation


 


5.3.1 Bioaccumulation: aquatic/sediment:


The study does not need to be conducted because the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation based on log Kow <=3.


 


5.4 Transportation and distribution


 


5.4.1 Adsorption/desorption


The adsorption coefficient (Koc) of the test material was determined to be 71.3, logKoc = 1.85.
