- Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Name: BHET
Composition:
Bis-2-hydroxy ethyl terephthalate (BHET) ~ 94% wt%
BHET dimer ~ 5% wt%
mono 2-hydroxy ethyl terephthalate (MHET) < 1.0 wt%
2-hydroxy ethyl 2-(2-hydroxy ethoxy)ethyl terephthalate <0.5 wt%
bis-2-hydroxy ethyl isophthalate (BHEI) < 0.1 wt%
ethylene glycol <1.0 wt%
water <0.2 wt% - Water solubility:
- 4 763 - 6 011 mg/L
- Conc. based on:
- test mat.
- Temp.:
- 20 °C
- pH:
- 4
- Conclusions:
- The solubility of the tested material is 4763 - 6011 mg/L at 20.0 °C.
- Executive summary:
The solubility of BHET in water was determined from the measured concentrations of 26 – 260 g/L in the filtrated test solutions.
Equilibration time can be considered as approx. 1 day, as the values which were measured on the following consecutive days did not give significantly different values. After 4 days, the concentration was measured in the flasks 2 – 6. As the solubility was slightly dependent on the nominal concentration, no exact value for the solubility of the test item in water can be stated. The solubility range for the tested nominal concentration 26 – 260 g/L is 4763 – 6011 mg/L at 20.0 °C (4.76 – 6.01 kg/m3 in SI units), corresponding to 2.3 – 18.3 % of the test item relating to the nominal concentration of the test item.
No observations arousing doubts concerning the accuracy of the results and the validity of the study were made.
