Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Data are available on the metabolism of acetate esters (including hexyl acetate) and indicate rapid enzymic hydrolysis in vivo

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Bioaccumulation potential:
no bioaccumulation potential
Absorption rate - oral (%):
50
Absorption rate - dermal (%):
50
Absorption rate - inhalation (%):
100

Additional information

An IPCS Review indicates that hexyl acetate would be subject to rapid enzymic hydrolysis in vivo. The results of an in vitro study indicate that inhaled acetate esters including hexyl acetate are likely to be extensively hydrolysed by respiratory tract enzymes, resulting in little systemic exposure to the intact ester.
