Conclusion on classification

The environmental classification of 4 -nitrobenzene-1 -sulfonyl chloride is currently not harmonised according to the CLP Regulation (EC) 1272/2008. No aquatic toxicity of the substance in the range of its solubility has been recorded in any of the three acute studies. In all trophic levels no toxic effects occurred up to the limit of solubility in the respective test media. Therefore, the test substance can be considered as not toxic to aquatic organisms and not posing an aquatic toxicity hazard. The substance is considered as poorly water-soluble and not rapidly biodegradable. However the "safety net" classification does not apply, as the log Kow is <= 4, indicating no potential for bioaccumulation. Therefore, the substance should not be classified as Chronic Cat. 4 according to Regulation (EC) N° 1272/2008. In conclusion, none of the criteria of Regulation (EC) N° 1272/2008 have been met, therefore the substance is not classified as hazardous to the environment.
