First-aid measures

General information:

In case of accident or if you feel unwell seek medical advice (show label or SDS where possible). Effects on the skin may cause degreasing and skin irritations.

After inhalation:

Move to fresh air, keep the victim laying down and restful. If breathing has stopped, give artificial respiration.

After contact with the skin:

Wash with plenty of water or water and soap. Remove contaminated or soaked clothing. Seek medical advice in case of continuous irritation.

After contact with the eyes:

Rinse immediately with plenty of water. Follow up check by oculist.

After swallowing:

Do not induce vomiting. Danger of aspiration. Seek medical advice and clearly identify substance.

Fire-fighting measures

General information:

Fight fire from a safe distance. Cool endangered containers with water.

Suitable extinguishing media:

Use water spray (not stream) to fight fires. alcohol-resistant foam . For laboratory-standard quantities: carbon dioxide.

Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons: water jet.

Special exposure hazards arising from the substance or preparation itself, combustion products, resulting gases:

At low oxygen level: acetic acid. Backfiring possible. Flammable/ explosive vapour-air mixtures may form.

Special protective equipment for fire fighting:

Use respiratory protection independent of recirculated air.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions:

Wear personal protection equipment. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Avoid inhaling mists and vapours.

Environmental precautions

Prevent material from entering sewers or surface waters. Contain any fluid that runs out using suitable material (e.g. earth). Dispose of in prescribed marked containers. Observe local/state/federal regulations.

Methods for cleaning up

Absorb with a liquid binding material such as diatomaceous earth and dispose of according to local/state/federal regulations. Contain larger amounts and pump up into suitable containers.

Further information:

Eliminate all sources of ignition.

Handling and storage

Handling

Precautions for safe handling:

Ensure adequate ventilation. During transfusion electrostatic charging possible. Take precautionary measures against electrostatic charging.

Precautions against fire and explosion:

Flammable vapors may accumulate and form explosive mixtures with air in containers, process vessels, including partial, empty and uncleaned containers and vessels, or other enclosed spaces. In partly emptied containers formation of explosive mixtures is possible. Take precautionary measures against electrostatic charging. Keep away from sources of ignition and do not smoke. Prevent material from entering sewage water system - danger of explosion.

Temperature class: T1

Storage

Conditions for storage rooms and vessels:

Keep container tightly closed. Store in a dry and cool place.

Advice for storage of incompatible materials:

Do not store together with fire-promoting and spontaneously inflammable substances or with highly inflammable solids.

Further information for storage:

Keep container tightly closed and store in a cool, well ventilated place. Protect against sun.

Storage class (TRGS 510): 3

3A: Flammable liquids.

EC Exposure Limit Values

National occupational exposure limits (Germany)

Components                        OEL

Methyl acetate       616mg/m³       200 ppm

Derived No-Effect Level (DNEL):

Methyl acetate

Area of use:       Value:

Worker; dermal; systemic (long term):       88 mg/kg/day

For the risk assessment, a 50% value has been applied. The value may be exceeded by a factor of 4 for a short time (15 min); or correspondingly longer for a lower exceedance.

Worker; by inhalation; local (long term):       305 mg/m³

The given value corresponds to the German occupational exposure limit. The value may be exceeded by a factor of 4 for a short time (15 min); or correspondingly longer for a lower exceedance.

Consumer; dermal; systemic (long term)       :       44 mg/kg/day

Consumer; by inhalation; systemic (long term):       131 mg/m³

Exposure in the work place limited and controlled

General protection and hygiene measures:

Avoid exposure. Remove contaminated, soaked clothing immediately. Do not eat, drink or smoke when handling. Wash hands at the end of work and before eating. Keep away from foodstuff, drink and feedingstuff. Keep working clothes separately. Provide emergency shower and eye-bath.Avoid exposure. Remove contaminated, soaked clothing immediately. Personal protection equipment:

Respiratory protection

If handled uncovered, use respiratory protective equipment. Respirator with a full face mask, according to acknowledged standards such as EN 136.

Recommended Filter type: Gas filter type AX (certain low-boiling organic compounds with boiling point ≤ 65°C), according to acknowledged standards such as EN 14387

In case of long or strong exposure: positive pressure self contained breathing apparatus

Eye protection

tight fitting protective goggles . Recommendation in case of long or strong exposure: look to respiratory protection .

Hand protection

Recommended glove types: Protective gloves made of butyl rubber

thickness of the material: 0,5 mm

Breakthrough time: < 30 min

Gloves are required at all times when handling the material.

Please observe the instructions regarding permeability and breakthrough time which are provided by the supplier of the gloves. Also take into consideration the specific local conditions under which the product is used, such as the danger of cuts, abrasion, and the contact time. Note that, due to the numerous external influences (such as temperature), a chemically resistant protective glove in daily use may have a service life that is considerably shorter than the measured break through time.

Skin protection

full protective suit liquid-tight required . Flame retardant antistatic protective clothing. Please observe the instructions regarding permeability time which are provided by the supplier.

Exposure to the environment limited and controlled

Prevent material from entering surface waters and soil.

Stability and reactivity

General information:

Flammable vapors may accumulate and form explosive mixtures with air in containers, process vessels, including partial, empty and uncleaned containers and vessels, or other enclosed spaces.

Conditions to avoid:

Static charge/discharge, formation of vapours/aerosoles, sources of ignition.

Materials to avoid:

oxidizing agents. Reacts with: alkalis. Reaction causes the formation of: methanol and heat.

If stored and handled in accordance with standard industrial practices and local regulations where applicable: none known .

Further information:

In use, may form flammable/explosive vapour-air mixture.

Disposal considerations

Material:

Recommendation: Dispose of according to regulations by incineration in a special waste incinerator. Small quantities may be disposed of by incineration in an approved facility. Observe local/state/federal regulations.

Uncleaned packaging:

Recommendation: Completely discharge containers (no tear drops, no powder rest, scraped carefully). Containers may be recycled or re-used. Observe local/state/federal regulations.

Waste Disposal Legislation Ref.No.(EC):

It is not possible to determine a waste code for this product in accordance with the European Waste Catalogue (EWC) since it is only possible to classify it according to how it is used by the customer. The waste code is to be determined within the EU in liaison with the waste-disposal operator.
