First-aid measures

Description of necessary first-aid measures & Most important symptoms/effects, acute and delayed:

Inhalation:

Move patient from contaminated area to fresh air. Oxygen or artificial respiration if needed. In case of persistent problems : Consult a

physician.

Skin contact:

Wash off with plenty of water. Frostbite : treat as thermal burns.

Eye contact:

Wash immediately, abundantly and thoroughly with water. If irritation persists, consult an ophthalmologist.

Ingestion: No hazards which require special first aid measures.

Protection of first-aiders:

Confined space : risk of hypoxia. If entering a saturated atmosphere, wear a self contained breathing apparatus.

Indication of immediate medical attention and special treatment needed, if necessary

Treatment:

Do not administer catecholamines (because of the cardiac effect caused by the product).

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: Water spray, Carbon dioxide (CO2), Dry powder, Foam

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:

Extremely flammable liquefied gas. At high temperature :, Thermal decomposition giving toxic and corrosive products : Hydrogen chloride gas, Hydrogen fluoride, Phosgene, Carbon oxides

Advice for firefighters:

Specific methods:

Cool containers / tanks with water spray. Ensure a system for the rapid emptying of containers. In case of fire nearby, remove exposed containers.

Special protective actions for fire-fighters: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suit.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:

Avoid contact with the skin and the eyes. Avoid inhalation of vapours. In enclosed areas : ventilate or wear a self-contained breathing apparatus (risk of anoxia). Remove all sources of ignition. Do not smoke.

Environmental precautions: Do not release into the environment.

Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up: Recovery: Ensure adequate ventilation.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling:

Technical measures/Precautions:

Storage and handling precautions applicable to products: pressurised liquified gas Extremely flammable Provide appropriate exhaust ventilation at machinery. Provide self-contained breathing apparatus nearby (for emergency intervention). Provide water supplies, ocular fountains and showers near the point of use. Well ventilate empty vats and tanks before entering.

Safe handling advice:

Prohibit ignition sources and contact with hot surfaces - DO NOT SMOKE. Only use safety equipment. Open drum carefully as content may be under pressure.

Hygiene measures:

Avoid contact with the skin and the eyes. Avoid inhalation of vapours. When using do not eat, drink or smoke.

Wash hands after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:

Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition. Keep in a cool, well-ventilated place. Protect full containers from sources of heat to avoid overpressurization. Provide electrical earthing of equipment and electrical equipment usable in explosive atmospheres. Protect against light.

Incompatible products: Alkali metals, Strong oxidizing agents

Packaging material: Recommended: Ordinary steel / To be avoided: Alloys containing more than 2% of magnesium, Plastic materials

Specific end uses:

This substance must be handled under strictly controlled conditions in accordance with REACH regulation Article 18(4) for on-site isolated intermediates. Written confirmation of application of strictly controlled conditions has been received from every Downstream User of the intermediate registered by Arkema.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Control parameters:

Exposure Limit Values 1-Chloro-1,1-difluoroethane

Source    Date          Value type       Value(ppm)       Value(mg/m3)

WEEL       2006             TWA         1.000         4.100

Exposure controls:

General protective measures:

Ensure sufficient air exchange and/or exhaust in work areas. On each manufacture or use site, clearly-written substance-handling procedures should be available, kept up-to-date and their implementation controlled. Use material of high integrity for loading and unloading. Investigate engineering techniques to reduce exposures. Routine monitoring and inspections for leaks to reduce fugitive emissions. Frequently monitor and control the working atmosphere.

Personal protective equipment:

Respiratory protection: In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment.

Hand protection: Leather gloves

Eye/face protection: Safety glasses with side-shields

Skin and body protection: Protective clothing (cotton)

Environmental exposure controls:

Do not release into the environment. Use techniques to minimize emissions (incineration or any treatment to minimize level of release).

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity & Stability:Reactivity & Chemical stability: The product is stable under normal handling and storage conditions.

Possibility of hazardous reactions: None under normal conditions of use.

Conditions to avoid: Keep away from heat and sources of ignition. Avoid contact with flames and red hot metallic surfaces

Incompatible materials to avoid: Alkali metals. Strong oxidizing agents

Hazardous decomposition products:

At high temperature :, Thermal decomposition giving toxic and corrosive products : Gaseous hydrogen fluoride (HF)., Phosgene, Carbon oxides
