Executive summary:

In a GLP study conducted according to EU Method A.15, the self-ignition temperature of an aqueous solution of Sodium (S)-lactate was determined under atmospheric pressure conditions (96.9 kPa). No self-ignition temperature was observed until 400 °C.

Description of key information

The substance to be registered as such is a solid. However, the marketed product is an aqueous solution which cannot be transformed into a solid substance (by evaporation) due to hygroscopic properties of Sodium lactate. Thus, in accordance with REACH Annex XI, section 2, it is technically not possible to determine the relative self-ignition temperature of the solid substance.

However, a GLP study conducted according to EU Method A.15 was performed for the determination of the self-ignition temperature of an aqueous solution of the enantiomer Sodium (S)-lactate. No self-ignition temperature was observed until 400 °C.
