The melting point of both a purified sample and a production sample containing a certain amount of impurities was determined in a OECD 102 study.
The melting point of the registered substance was analyzed using DSC measurements first. According to these measurements the melting point for the purified substance was determined to be 179.1 °C. DSC measurements of production samples give several peaks, sometimes including glass transition points. Therefore the melting point of production sample was determined to be 101.2 °C using a capillary tube.
As the production sample describes the registered substance more precisely than the purified sample containing only the main constituent, the melting point of the production sample, i.e. 101.2°C, was chosen as the key value.
