Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
The hydrolytical stability of 2-tert-butylaminoethyl methacrylate is based on read across from a structurally strongly related substance N,N-Dimethylaminoethyl Methacrylate. This substance has a very short half-life of 3.3 h at 25 °C and pH 9; a short half-life of 4.5 days at 25 °C and pH 7 and is considered to be stable at 50°C and pH 4.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Half-life for hydrolysis:
- 4.5 d
- at the temperature of:
- 25 °C
Additional information
The degradation product of 2-tert-butylaminoethyl methacrylate is
tert butyl, N-hydroxyethylamine (TBHEA). To evaluate the ecotoxicity in the absence of experimental data on the degradation product, ECOSAR was used to predict toxicity. Even though such prediction is not very accurate, it is still useful to compare trends in toxicity between compounds. As observed in the table, the degradation product TBHEA is predicted to be less toxic then the predicted toxicity of the parent compound TBAEMA. When comparing calculated and observed data on the parent compound, it is clear that ECOSAR highly overestimates the toxicity. Hence, the ECOSAR predicted toxicity of TBHEA can be used as worst case for this degradation product.
| TBAEMA toxicity | TBHEA toxicity | ||
Observed | Calculated | Calculated
Fish LC50 (96h) | >500 | 27.4 | 243.7
Daphnia LC50 (48h) | >64.8 | 2.8 | 17.0
Green Algea EC50 (96h or 72 h) | >73.3 | 1.3 | 4.1 |
