Toxicokinetics :
Available data pertaining to the bio-transformation of Sunset yellow FCF to Rat and Mice indicate rapid excretion of the administered chemical through the urine and faeces upon dosing. Thus,it can be concluded that the chemical shall have low bio-accumulation potential.
Acute Toxicity :
Based upon the study results and available information, the substance Sunset Yellow FCF is not expected to show acute toxicity effect by the oral, inhalation and dermal route and thus will not be considered for further classification.
Irritation Effect :
The available studies indicate that the substance Disodium 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulphonatophenyl) azo] naphthalene-2-sulphonate (sunset yellow FCF) is not classified as a skin and eye irritant according to CLP regulation.
Skin Sensitisation :
Based upon the weight of evidence approach and considering data from other authoritative sources, it is concluded that disodium 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulphonatophenyl) azo]naphthalene-2-sulphonate is not likely to exhibit sensitization effect on the skin of rabbit, human and guinea pig. Thus, the chemical is considered to be non-sensitizing for the purpose of classification.

DNEL derivation
Disodium 6-hydroxy-5-[(4-sulphonatophenyl)azo]naphthalene-2-sulphonate is non acute toxic to any of the following route of exposure i.e. oral, dermal and inhalation, shows no irritation effect to skin and eye, is not genotoxic and is not a developmental or reproductive toxin.
In the absence of local effects following short-term or long-term exposure, no dose-response data are available and a quantitative dose descriptor is not derived. DNEL values for local exposure are therefore not calculated.
In the absence of acute systemic toxicity, no dose-response data are available and a quantitative dose descriptor is not derived. DNEL values for acute systemic effects are therefore not calculated.
A standard approach to deriving DNEL values would be to use the reproductive toxicity dataset and apply assessment factors as described in ECHA guidance documents. The critical endpoint is considered to be the NOAEL of 100000 mg/kg bw/d in oral category.
