Results

A preliminary screening test was carried out.

The sample granules were laid in a 250 mm mould as prescribed in the test method.

The test flame was applied for over two minutes. As the sample melts it ignited itself readily. A 20 cm high yellow flame is observed, along with black smoke. While the melted sample burns, the solid part of the sample did not ignite until melted. The time of burning was 245 s. 

The preliminary screening is positive if the time of burning is less than 240 s: as the sample time of burning was only 5 s longer, the burning rate test was carried out anyway.

The sample granules were laid into a 250 mm mould as prescribed in the test method.

A hot flame from a gas burner was used to ignite the pile at one end. When the pile had burned a distance of, the rate of burning over the nextwas measured.

The results of the six tests carried out are reported in Table 1.

Executive summary:

A study was performed to determine Flammability (Solids) on the sample labelled as 2,4,6-TRIMETHYLPHENOL.

The study was conducted in compliance with Council Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008 of May 30th, 2008, Part A: Methods for the Determination of Physicochemical Properties.  

Flammability (Solids) was determined according to Method A.10 – Flammability (Solids).

According to test method A.10, the sample labelled as 2,4,6-TRIMETHYLPHENOL is not readily flammable.
