Data on the acute toxicity of the target substance (EC 943-330-9) to fish are not available. The assessment was therefore based on a study conducted with the analogue substance Bis[2-(2-butoxyethoxy)ethyl] adipate (CAS 141-17-3) as part of a read across approach, which is in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. Further justification is given within the overall summary chapter 6.1 and within the analogue justification in IUCLID section 13.
The acute toxicity of the source substance Bis[2-(2-butoxyethoxy)ethyl] adipate (CAS 141-17-3) to fish was tested in a guideline study following OECD 203. Fish of the speciesOncorhynchus mykisswere exposed to nominal substance concentrations of 10, 18, 32, 56 and 100 mg/L for 96 h. A semi-static test system was set up with a daily renewal of the test solutions. The test solutions were prepared by direct dispersion of the substance in water and subsequent stirring for approx. 30 min. At concentrations of 56 mg/L and 32 mg/L loss of equilibrium and moribund fish were observed. The lowest concentration resulting in 0% mortality was 10 mg/L. Thus, a NOEC of 10 mg/L (nominal) was reported. The determined LC50 (96 h) was 13 mg/L.
