First-aid measures
General
Inhalation :
If inhaled, remove to fresh air. Obtain medical attention if symptoms occur.
Ingestion:
If swallowed, rinse mouth with water (only if the person is conscious). Do not induce vomiting. Obtain medical attention if symptoms occur.
Skin contact :
Rinse with plenty of running water. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Obtain medical attention if symptoms occur.
Eye contact :
Rinse with plenty of running water. Obtain medical attention if symptoms occur.
Note to physician :
Inhalation of fire and thermal decomposition gases, containing oxides of nitrogen and ammonia, can cause irritation and corrosive effects on the respiratory system. Some lung effects may be delayed. Give oxygen, especially if there is blueness around the mouth.
Fire-fighting measures
Extinguishing media
If fertilizer is not directly involved in the Fire
Use the best means available to extinguish the Fire.
If fertilizer is involved in the Fire
Use plenty of water.
Small fire :
Non-combustible. This product can sustain combustion. Water.
Large fire :
Non-combustible. This product can sustain combustion. Water.
Extinguishing media not to be used :
Do not use chemical extinguishers or foams or attempt to smother the fire with steam or sand.
Unusual fire and explosion hazards.
May be explosive in contact with flammable or organic substances and at confinement during fire.
Hazardous thermal decomposition and combustion products :
In case of fire, may produce hazardous decomposition products such as nitrogen oxides (NO, NO2 etc.), ammonia (NH3), amines.
Special fire fighting procedures :
Open doors and windows of the store to give maximum ventilation.
Avoid breathing the fumes (toxic); stand up-wind of the Fire.
Prevent any contamination of fertilizer by oils or other combustible materials.
Wear suitable protective clothing. Self-contained breathing apparatus.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions:
Avoid walking through spilled product and exposure to dust.
Use suitable protective equipment (Section exposure controls/ personal protection)
Environmental precautions :
Take care to avoid the contamination of watercourses and drains and inform the appropriate authority in case of accidental contamination of watercourses.
Methods for cleaning up :
Small spill and leak :
Vacuum or sweep up material and place in a designated, labelled waste container. Clean up affected area with a large amount of water. Do not collect spilled material in sawdust or other combustible material.
Large spill and leak :
Vacuum or sweep up material and place in a designated, labelled waste container. Recycle, if possible. Clean up affected area with a large amount of water. If spilled substance enters a watercourse, inform the local authority. Do not collect spilled material in sawdust or other combustible material.
Remarks :
Note: See section exposure controls/ personal protection for personal protective equipment and section disposal considerations for waste disposal.
Handling and storage
Handling :
Use with adequate ventilation. Local exhaust ventilation should be provided. Avoid possible sources of ignition (spark or flame). Avoid contamination by any source including metals, dust and organic materials.
Storage :
Avoid contact with combustible and reducing materials. Do not expose to high temperatures.
Specific use(s)
Packaging materials
Stainless steel (304)
Non suitable: Zinc., Copper
Note: See section stability and reactivity for stability and reactivity.
