Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets
Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
General
In serious cases seek medical attention.
Inhalation
Not likely to occur. Avoid breathing dust.
Skin
Remove contaminated clothing. Wash off with soap and water. In the event of persistent skin irritation,
consult a physician.
Eye
Rinse thoroughly with plenty of water. Eyelids should be held away from the eyeball to ensure thorough
rinsing. Seek medical advice if irritation persists.
Ingestion
If swallowed, induce vomiting (only if victim is conscious!). Rinse mouth, give water to drink.
Fire-fighting measures
Extinguishing media
The product is not flammable (Except packaging). Product decomposes giving off toxic fumes: (preferably) water or foam.
Accidental release measures
Environmental precautions
Collect as much as possible in a clean container for (preferable) reuse or disposal. Avoid discharge into the environment.
Methods for cleaning up
To clean the floor and all objects contaminated by this material, use water.
Handling and storage
Handling
When using do not eat, drink or smoke. Avoid dust generation. Use only in well-ventilated areas.
Fire and explosion prevention
No specific recommendations
Storage requirements
Keep container tightly closed and in a well-ventilated place (cool, dry and dark). Keep away from acids or oxidants.
Other information
Thiocyanate solutions as well as crystals are corrosive to mild steel and lower grade stainless steel. Glass, titanium, rubber, PVC, PE, PTFE, Polyester and baked enamel linings are resistant under normal conditions. Test in case of doubt.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Engineering controls
Ensure good ventilation and local exhaustion of the working area. Dust exposure limits have to be respected.
Respiratory
In case of dust formation use dust mask.
Hand
For permanent (>480 minutes), full contact use, 100% nitrile gloves conforming to EN 374, e.g. KCL Dermatril 740 are recommended. If used under conditions other than given above it is recommended that a supplier of CE approved gloves is contacted. These recommendations are only applicable to the chemical as supplied by Akzo Nobel; if mixed with or dissolved in other substances please contact a supplier of CE approved gloves (e.g. KCL International +49 66 59870, fax +49 6659 87155).
Skin and body
The usual precautionary measures for handling chemicals should be observed
Eye
Wear eye/face protection
Stability and reactivity
Conditions to avoid
Reaction with strong oxidizing agents, Reaction with strong acids.
Stability
Stable under recommended storage and handling conditions
Incompatibles
Reaction with various metals.
Decomposition
H2S, HCN, NH3, CS2, COS, CO, NOx and SO2.
Disposal considerations
Product
Please refer to your specific industry in the European Waste Catalogue.
Contaminated packaging
Containers which cannot be cleaned should be disposed of in the same manner as the product.
