- Neither adult mortality nor any sublethal effects were observed up to a concentration of 2.4 µg a.s./L (TWM, NOEC). The EC10, EC20, and EC50 were estimated at 3.1, 4.7, and 10.6 µg a.s./L (TWM), respectively.
Adult body length exhibited no significant differences between treatments up to the highest concentration tested (NOEC ≥ 27.5 µg a.s./L (TWM)). All surviving specimens gave the impression of healthy condition.
Survival, growth and reproduction data are given in Table A7.4.3.4-6 and Table A7.4.3.4-7. Data about parental length at day 21 are given in Table A7.4.3.4-8.
Age at first brood was between 9.0 and 10.5 days across treatment level (NOEC ≥ 27.5 µg a.s./L (TWM)).
The cumulative number of offspring per parent animal ranged from 28.0 to 67.6 across treatment levels, showing an apparent concentration-response relationship.
NOEC = 2.3 µg a.s./L, EC10 = 3.4 µg a.s./L, EC20 = 6.8 µg a.s./L, and EC50 24.6 µg a.s./L (TWM) - Reported statistics and error estimates:
- Calculations were performed with the computer software ToxRat Professional version 2.09 (release 08.11.2006) by ToxRat® Solutions GmbH. A NOEC was calculated using ANOVA followed by Williams’ test or an appropriate non-parametric test suggested by the ToxRat program. Test results showing a concentration-response relationship were analysed by regression to determine the EC50 including the 95 % confidence interval as well as the EC10 using probit analysis assuming log-normal distribution of the values.

- Executive summary:
The influence of Amines, N-C10-C16-alkyltrimethylenedi-, reaction products with chloroacetic acid (20% a.i., as manufactured) on the reproduction of Daphnia magna was investigated. A 21-day semi-static exposure to the test item at nominal concentrations of 0.92, 2.30, 5.75, 14.40, and 36.00 µg a.i./L, with daily renewal of the test solutions was conducted according to OECD guideline 211. Untreated control replicates were run in parallel. Each treatment group consisted of 10 replicates with one daphnid each (individual exposure). Effects on growth (adult length at test termination) and reproductive performance were investigated. Samples of fresh and aged test solutions were analysed for test item concentrations.
Since the nominal concentrations varied by more than 20 %, the biological effects were re-evaluated based on mean measured concentrations. Due to a decrease of test item concentration during the renewal period, the time weighted mean values (TWM) for each treatment level were calculated. The respective TWM were 0.78, 2.28, 2.39, 11.35, and 27.48 µg a.i./L (85.3, 99.2, 41.5, 78.8, and 76.3 % of nominal).

- The chronic toxicity of the substance in a study following OECD 211 with Daphnia magna resulted in a nominal based NOEC for reproduction of >= 250 μg/L (>=50.8 μg/L nominal a.s. concentration). A slightly stimulating effect on the reproduction of the daphnids was observed at the concentration levels 79.1 μg/L (30.5% stimulation) and 250 μg/L (35.6% stimulation).
- Executive summary:
The chronic toxicity of the substance to aquatic invertebrates was tested in a study following OECD 211. Daphnia magna were exposed for 21 days to nominal substance concentrations of 2.50, 7.91, 25.0, 79.1, 250 µg/L. The test solutions were prepared with natural river water as test medium. The test item concentrations were analytically verified by LC-MS/MS based on the signals of the two lead components C-12 PDA and N’C12-Gly.
The measured test item concentrations based on the lead component C-12 PDA in fresh media at the start of the respective exposure intervals (0 hours) were in the range of 53 to 245% of the nominal concentrations and < LOQ to 99% in old media at the end of the respective exposure intervals (48 and 72 hours). The measured test item concentrations based on the lead component N’C12-Gly in fresh media at the start of the respective exposure intervals (0 hours) were in the range of 70 to 112% of the nominal concentrations and < LOQ to 114% in old media at the end of the respective exposure intervals (48 and 72 hours). During the course of the study the reproduction rate and the survival rate of the parental animals were recorded. The reproduction was slightly stimulated at the nominal concentrations levels 79.1 µg/L and 250µg/L. A significant effect on the survival rate of the parental animals was not observed. Thus the determined NOEC based on reproduction was >= 250 μg/L nominal (>=50.8 μg/L nominal a.s. concentration).

The influence of Amines, N-C10-C16-alkyltrimethylenedi-, reaction products with chloroacetic acid (20% a.i., as manufactured) on the reproduction of Daphnia magna was investigated in two experimental studies performed according to GLP and OECD 211.
In the key study, daphnids were exposed to nominal concentrations of 0.92, 2.30, 5.75, 14.40, and 36.00 µg a.i./L for 21 days. Due to a decrease of test item concentration during the renewal period, the time weighted mean values (TWM) for each treatment level were calculated. The respective TWM were 0.78, 2.28, 2.39, 11.35, and 27.48 µg a.i./L (85.3, 99.2, 41.5, 78.8, and 76.3 % of nominal). All effect concentrations are given as time weighted mean concentrations: No significant mortality was observed up to a concentration of 2.4 µg a.i./L. The EC50 for mortality was found to be 10.6 µg a.i./L. Adult body length exhibited no significant differences between the treatments up to the highest concentration tested. The 21 d NOEC for cumulative offspring per Daphnia and intrinsic rate of increase was 2.3 µg a.i./L, the EC10 was 3.1 µg a.i/L (parental survival).
In a second study, daphnids were exposed for 21 days to nominal test item concentrations of 2.50, 7.91, 25.0, 79.1, 250 µg/L. The test item concentrations were analytically verified by LC-MS/MS based on the signals of the two lead components C-12 PDA and N’C12-Gly. The measured test item concentrations based on the lead components were in a range between < LOQ to 245% of nominal concentrations. During the course of the study the reproduction rate and the survival rate of the parental animals were recorded. The reproduction was slightly stimulated at the nominal concentrations levels 79.1 µg/L and 250µg/L. A significant effect on the survival rate of the parental animals was not observed. Thus the determined NOEC based on reproduction was >= 250 μg/L nominal (>=50.8 μg/L nominal a.s. concentration), higher compared to the NOEC of the key study.
