Description of key information

There is a high probability that the product is not acutely harmful to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria.

325 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
98 mg/L

Additional information

The toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria was assessed with studies using melamine and cyanuric acid as test material.

For the component CAS 108 -78 -1 (melamine):

Drozdowski 1988 was selected as the key study , as it is the newer one, it was performed under GLP and it is reported in more detail.

The study of Oldersma 1982 reportes a high EC50 and NOEC, even higher than in Drozdowski 1988.

For the component CAS 108 -80 -5 (cyanuric acid):

Very high EC50 and NOEC values are reported for the growth rate (Vreynhoef 2007): > 3700 mg/L (nominal) and 945 mg/L (nominal)
