A GLP-compliant study, scored as Klimisch 1 and assigned as a key study, is available on the reaction mass of cerium dioxide and zirconium dioxide, yielding a melting point value superior to 500°C (Demangel, 2010a). The study was performed with a representative nanoform, but the melting point of any potential bulk form, should such form be placed on the market, can reasonably be considered to be > 500°C as well.

In an experimental study, scored as Klimisch 1 (Weissenfeld, 2006), a melting point of > 400°C was observed for cerium dioxide. Literature information, scored as Klimisch 2 (Lide, CRC Handbook, 1991) or 4 (NIEHS, 2006; IRIS-EPA, 2009), is also available on cerium dioxide, reporting consistently high melting point values (ranging between 2400 and 2600°C). Literature information on zirconium dioxide, scored as Klimisch 2 (Lide, CRC Handbook, 2001; O'Neil, Merck Index, 2006) also reports consistently high melting point values (approximately 2700 °C). Data on these constituents are used as supporting studies in a read across analogue approach.
