Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Auto flammability
Administrative data
Link to relevant study record(s)
- Endpoint:
- auto-flammability
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- June 1996
- Reliability:
- 2 (reliable with restrictions)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- test procedure in accordance with national standard methods with acceptable restrictions
- Remarks:
- Test methods are described in a separate document.
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- other: DIN 51794
- Principles of method if other than guideline:
- The test for the determination of the auto flammability was preformed according to DIN 51794.
1) Apparatus:
Heating oven with erlmeyer flask according to DIN 51794
2) Input:
1-6 drops of the testing substance (Eppendorf 100 µL with glas top)
3) Performance:
According to DIN 51794, but with several deviations:
- the tests were preformed by increasing temprature starting with 50°C up to 600 °C
- installation of a second temperature sensore, which improves the temperature determination
- in the range of the lowest ignition temperature several ignition test are preformed until the lowest ignition temperature is determined to accurate
5°C and under which value at least 3 ignition tests in 5°C-steps do not lead to ignition. - GLP compliance:
- not specified
- Key result
- Auto-ignition temperature:
- 500 °C
- Remarks on result:
- other: No information on pressure reported
- Conclusions:
- Auto flammability of 4-tert-Butylbenzonitril: 500 °C
- Executive summary:
A test for the determination of the auto flammability of 4 -tert-Butylbenzonitrile was performed according to DIN 51794. The result was that the auto flammability of 4-tert-Butylbenzonitril occurs at 500 °C.
