First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove casualty to fresh air. If breathing is difficult give

oxygen. If breathing ceases give artificial respiration.

Seek immediate medical attention.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Flush affected eye with copious amount of water, for at

least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated clothing. Wash affected area with

copious amounts of water, for at least 15 minutes. If signs

of irritation occur, seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Do NOT induce vomiting. Seek immediate medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: use appropriate medium for the underlying cause of fire

(e.g. water spray, carbon dioxide, dry chemical or foam)

Product arising from burning: Oxides of carbon, nitrogen and sulphur.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Fire-fighters should wear full (impervious) protective

clothing including self contained breathing apparatus.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear full protective clothing: overalls, rubber boots and

gloves, eye protection and self contained respirator when

cleaning up  a spill. Collect spilled material to minimize

dust geneartion: use wet mop, damp sponge or wet/dry HEPA

vacuum. Place collected material in suitable container for

disposal. Spill should be washed and well ventilated.

Handling and storage

Handling: Engineering controls in the form of local exhaust

ventilation is provided at the reactor. When engineering

controls are not sufficient to control dust exposure,

approved respirator protection should be worn. For

manufacturing areas skin protection should be provided in

the form of overalls, or full air suits  along with

impermeable gloves. Rubber, neoprene or other gloves may be

required if solvents, corrosives or other chemicals are

present. Chemical safety glasses should be worn if a

full-face respirator is not worn.

Storage: Store in sealed unbreakable containers, in a cool, dry place

protected from light.

Ensure conatiners are correctly labelled.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Un approved fibre drums.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: None known.

Chemical reaction with water: None known.

Dust explosion: This powder as a dust cloud is extremely sensitive to

electrical ignition from static discharges and has a strong

explosion severity. The material has high resistivity and a

long charge time and the potential for it to store

substantial static electrical charge is expected to be high.

Standard bounding and grounding protection of storage,

transfer and process equipment is recommended to control

static charges.

Dust explosion determined by test: N

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: 7-PACA is consumed in the drug synthesis reaction in which

it is employed. Significant residual levels in reactor

effluent are not expected. No practical method of

recovery/recycling is known.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: No method chemical neutralisation is known.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Trace quantities can be destroyed by biological oxidation in

a waste water treatment plant. National regulations must be

observed. Code A641

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Incineration is recommended for large quantities. A

closed-cycle incineration with scrubbers should be used.

National regulations must be observed. Code: A643

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Trace quantities of material inn aqueous washes or waste

streams can be treated in a biological treatment plant to

discharge to a municipal treatment plant.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: Not recommended.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: 7-PACA is not intended for public use.
