irritation develops.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Flush with water for 15 minutes. Seek immediate medical

attention.

Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated clothing and wash area with soap and

water. If irritation develops seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek immediate medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Water, carbon dioxide, foam or dry chemical.

Product arising from burning: Products of combustion may contain oxides of carbon and

platinum metal.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: A self conatined breathing apparatus should be worn.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear suitable protective clothing (see 2.3.1). Sweep or mop

spliiage. Collect chemical and contaminated materials in a

suitably labelled container and seal. Reclaim platinum

content. Dispose of by incineration in accordance with local

regulations.

Handling and storage

Handling: Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn when

handling to prevent contact, including protective gloves,

which are resistant to the solvent, safety goggles and a

suitable respirator.

Storage: The test material should be kept in a cool, dry, well

ventilated place and away from sources of ignition.

Preparation is stored in 1, 5, 30 and 55 gallon lined steel

containers or semi-bulk stainless steel containers.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Platinum is recovered by incineration. This is economically

desirable for even small spills.

Contain spill and transfer contaminated rags, absorbant and

any liquid to a recovery facility.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Combustion converts the compound to platimun metal (residue)

and or oxide and carbon dioxide. This should be performed at

a platinum recovery facility.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not recommended.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Preferred method.

The substance should be disposed of at a licensed facility.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not recommended; the product does not mix with water.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: None reported.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery for reuse is not possible.

Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: None known.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not recommended.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Preparations may be disposed of by incineration.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not recommended.
