Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

NOEC (14 d): ≥ 18.1 mg/L for acitvated sludge microorganisms (OECD 301B)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The toxicity of 1,3-butylene diacetate (CAS 1117-31-3) to microorganisms was investigated in a biodegradation study according to OECD 301B under GLP conditions (Roulstone, 2012). An additional toxicity control containing activated sludge of a predominantly domestic sewage, reference substance (sodium benzoate) and the test substance at a concentration of 18.1 mg/L. The toxicity control attained 78% degradation after 14 d of incubation. Since more than 35% degradation was observed in the toxicity control, the substance is with high probability not toxic to aquatic microorganisms. The test item concentration in the toxicity control of 18.1 mg/L can be used as NOEC value for the toxicity to aquatic microorganisms. Thus a NOEC (14 d) of ≥ 18.1 mg/L resulted.
