Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations. No toxic effects occur at the range of solubility.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Assessment of the parent compound Benzenepropanoic acid, 3,5-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-4-hydroxy-,C7-9-branched alkyl esters (CAS: 125643 -61 -0)

Short term respiration test (OECD 209):

In a short term respiration test according to OECD guideline 209, no respiration inhibition of domestic activated sludge was observed over a period of 3 hours at 100 mg/L test substance concentration (CIBA-GEIGY 1989). Therefore, the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations.

Supporting assessment of the impurity Metilox (CAS 6386-38-5)

In a 3 h acute toxicity study to sewage sludge microorganisms the IC50 value based on respiration rate was bigger than 100 mg/L after a 3 h contact time.

Supporting assessment of the major degradation product Metilox acid (CAS: 20170-32-5)

In a 3 hours activated sludge respiration inhibition test the IC50 concentration of the test substance was found to be greater than 100 mg/L.
