Description of key information

NOEC >= 1000 mg/kg soil dw for Eisenia fetida (OECD 222)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

One study investigating the chronic toxicity to earthworm of Multi constituent ester of pentaerythritol 2-ethylhexanoate. The effect of the test substance on earthworm survival, growth and reproduction (OECD 222) was tested in accordance with GLP provisions (Ganßmann, 2013). The test was conducted with artificial soil mixed with the test substance. Earthworms of the species Eisenia fetida were exposed to test substance concentrations of up to 1000 mg/kg soil dw for 28 days and then removed from the test substrate. Survival rate and growth (body weight) of the specimen were determined. After another 28 days the hatched juveniles were collected from the test substrate and the reproduction rate was recorded. Mortality, a decrease in body weight of the adult earthworms or inhibition of reproduction was not observed. Thus a NOEC ≥ 1000 mg/kg soil based on reproduction rate was determined.
