Description of key information

The surface tension of a 0.731 g/l solution of PC2414 (hydrolysed from) has been determined to be 70.1 mN/m at 22.8 ± 0.5 °C.

Additional information

The surface tension of PC2414 was carried out based on the ISO 304 ring method, designed to be compatible with that specified in Method A5 Surface Tension of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008.

Based on previous information obtained in the water solubility test (see Section 4.8) and data relating to the pH of PC2414 in water, considerable hydrolysis of the sample solution was expected to occur during the course of the surface tension test. Thus, the concentration of “test item” in the test solution was determined via comparison to standards which (analytically) contained a mixture of hydrolysed and parent test item. Consequently, total peak area was used in the subsequent calculations. During the water solubility test (see Section 4.8), PC2414 was found to hydrolyse fully within 1 hour of contact with water; therefore the surface tension test was carried out as per the guidelines, to better assess the surface tension characteristics of the hydrolysis products as opposed to the parent test item (PC2414).

The surface tension of a 0.731 g/l solution of PC2414 (hydrolysed from) was determined to be 70.1 mN/m at 22.8 ± 0.5 °C , using a ring method based on ISO 304, designed to be compatible with Method A5 Surface Tension of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008. Consequently, PC2414 (hydrolysed from) is considered not to be a surface-active substance.
