A test for ready biodegradability conducted according to the Modified MITI (OECD Test Guideline 301C) indicated that the chemical only very slowly degraded under the conditions of the test (Iwami S, 1994). Biological oxygen demand (BOD) measurements after 28 days incubation of the test substance with sewage sludge indicated a maximum of 6% degradation, while analytical determinations of the residual compound in the BOD bottles indicated a maximum of 3% degradation. The reference compound aniline, was 72% degraded over a 28-day test period. The result of this test indicates that the BDP is not readily biodegradable.
