Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

GLS-Silane is a UVCB comprised of 8 constituents, with the primary constituents (45 – 105%) being comprising of a structurally similar group of silanes with varying levels of carbon, oxygen and chlorine substitution.

Reliable data are available for four of the primary constituents of GLS-Silane. Thein vitrotesting was conducted for the chlorinated form of the compounds and all tests conducted were predominantly found to be negative for genetic effects (see Table 1).

Short description of key information:
In vitro (read across to GLS-Silane constituents [dichloro(methyl)silane, CAS 75-54-7 (20 - 40% in GLS-Silane); tetramethylsilane, CAS 75-76-3 (10 - 30% in GLS-Silane); chloro(dimethyl)silane, CAS 1066-35-9 (10 - 20% in GLS-Silane); and trichlorosilane, CAS 10025-78-2 (5 - 15% in MS-Silane)]):
- Gene mutation (Bacterial reverse mutation assay / Ames test): negative with and without activation in all strains tested (equivalent to OECD TG 471)
- Cytogenicity in mammalian cells: negative with and without activation (similar to OECD TG 473)
- Mutagenicity in mammalian cells: negative (similar to OECD 476)

Endpoint Conclusion: No adverse effect observed (negative)

Justification for classification or non-classification

The primary constituents of GLS-Silane [dichloro(methyl)silane, CAS 75-54-7 (20 - 40% in GLS-Silane); tetramethylsilane, CAS 75-76-3 (10 - 30% in GLS-Silane); chloro(dimethyl)silane, CAS 1066-35-9 (10 - 20% in GLS-Silane); and trichlorosilane, CAS 10025-78-2 (5 - 15% in MS-Silane)] did not induce mutations in bacterial or mammalian cells, nor chromosome aberrations in mammalian cells. It is considered appropriate to read across to the results for the primary constituents of GLS-Silane. Therefore it is considered that classification for mutagenicity is not required.
