Discussion:
Substances having a logl0 Pow greater than 3 are regarded as having the potential to bioaccumulate in the environment. Identification of the major peaks of interest (decyltetradecyl myristoyl beta alaninate and phytosteryl myristoyl beta alaninate) was performed using analytical details provided by the Sponsor. In the absence of any dissociating functional groups within the environmentally relevant pH range, no specific manipulation of the mobile phase pH was necessary to ensure that the test material was analysed in a non-ionised form. Insignificant differences in the test material peak retention times were observed following the subtraction of a solvent blank (methanol) injection. However this had no impact on the limit value obtained for the partition coefficient result.
To conclude, the partition coefficient of the test material has been determined to be greater than 3.16 x 106, log10 Pow >6.50.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Conclusions:
The partition coefficient of the test material has been determined to be > 3.16 x 10E6, log Pow >6.50.- Executive summary:
Method
The determination was carried out using the HPLC Method, Method A8 Partition Coefficient of Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008.
Mean Log10 Pow >6.50
Partition Coefficient: > 3.162 x 106
Conclusion
To conclude, the partition coefficient of the test material has been determined to be greater than 3.16 x 106, log10 Pow >6.50
