Description of key information

Key study: Test method OECD 201. GLP study. The 72h-EC50 and 72h-NOEC based on algae (Selenastrum capricornutum) growth rate for 2-vinylpyridine were determined to be 62 and 27 mg/l, respectively.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
62 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
27 mg/L

Additional information

Key study: An Algal Growth Inhibition Test was performed by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment based on OECD-GLP standard and OECD test Guideline 201. The test duration was 72 hours. The 72 h-EC50 and 72h-NOEC based on algae (Selenastrum capricornutum) growth rate for 2 -vinylpyridine were determined to be 62 and 27 mg/l, respectively. Moreover, the 72h-EC50 and 72h-NOEC based on the area under growth curve (AUG) were determined to be 51 and 31 mg/l, respectively.
