Description of key information

For the test item Reaction product of adipic acid and sebacic acid and isotridecan-1 -ol is no study available. However, it is likely that the studies conducted on the component diisotridecyl adipate and the analague bis(2-ethylhexyl) adipate are valid for Reaction product of adipic acid and sebacic acid and isotridecan-1 -ol (please see justification for read-across). Based on the results of the key study it can be concluded that the 24 and 48 h EL50 values of the component Diisotridecyl adipate is >1000 mg/l nominal concentrations.

To assess the short-term toxicity of the component diisotridecyl adipate to aquatic invertebrates, three tests with Daphnia magna are available. The acute toxicity of the component Diisotridecyl adipate to Daphnia magna was investigated under static exposure condition over a period of 48 h. The only applied nominal test concentrations were 100 amd 1000 mg/l. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the 24 and 48 h EL50 values of the component Diisotridecyl adipate is >1000 mg/l nominal concentrations (Häner/Panolin, 1998).

One test uses the supporting substance di-2 -ethylhexyl adipate and a test period of 48 hours (BASF 1988). In the other test, test substance is diisotridecyl adipate and the test period is 24 hours (Rabe/Mobil 1997).

The 48-h-acute toxicity of di-2-ethylhexyl adipate to water fleas was studied under static conditions in a Daphnia magna immobilization test similar to OECD test guideline 202. Daphnids were exposed to nominal concentrations of 0 (control), 15.62, 31.2, 62.5, 125, 250, and 500 mg/L test substance. To increase solubility a vehicle was used (Tween 80,100 mg/L).

In controls and vehicle controls, no immobilization of daphnids was observed. The 48-h EC50 based on immobilisation was determined to be > 500 mg/L (BASF, 1988).
