Description of key information

As the water solubility of the components diisotridecyl adipate and diisotridecyl sebacate are below  0.001 mg/L, the substance is regarded insoluble in water.

In the literature a water solubility of < 0,001 mg the component Diisotridecyl adipate (DTDA) /L is described. This value is supported by EPIWIN calculations of Diisotridecyl adipate which result in values of 0.000000511 mg/L. The water solubility of the component diisotridecyl sebacate is calculated with 5.565E-11. Therefore the component diisotridecyl sebacate is less water soluble than the component diisotridecyl adipate, also to be seen in the chemical structure with a longer C-chain.

The measured value of 1.12 mg/L (Harlan, 2010) has been determined using the flask method. In the guideline (R7.A) this method is recommended for substances with higher water solubility (> 10 mg/L). Therefore this method is not appropriate for determination of the water solubility of DTDA.

The recommended method for the determination of water solubility of substances with low water solubility (< 10 mg/L) would be the column elution method. However, due to the physical properties of the DTDA a determination of water solubility using this method was not possible.

The existing experimental results (Sasol, 2010) with an analogue substance is considered as limit tests up to the detection limits of the used analytical method.
