Biodegradation in water: screening tests

Description of key information

In a test performed according to OECD guideline 301 D adapted to insoluble substance,  the biodegradation of the test item reached 44 % at day 28 and 65% of the ThOD at the end of the extended test (60 days). An inert carrier was used to increase the bioavailability of the test substance for microorgansims.

Additional information

In a manometric respirometry test conducted according to OECD guideline 301 F, test item biodegradations (ThOD) of 17.6% after 28 days and 27.4% after 56 days were found. The test substance being a complex reaction product with insoluble components, a closed-bottle test was performed according to OECD guideline 301 D. Inert carrier was used to improve the bioavailability of the test substance for microorganisms. The biodegradation reached a value of 44% after 28 days and 65% after 60 days. Based on these data, the biodegradation increasing between Day 28 and Day 60 to reach more than 60% of biodegradation, the test substance can be considered as inherently biodegradable, fulfilling specific criteria.
