Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Summary and discussion of bioaccumulation

The constituents hydrolyse rapidly to HCl and silanol. The constituent silanols have low log Kowvalues with the exception of hexamethyl disilane (CAS 1450-14-2; log Kow = 5.85), 1.3-dichloro-1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxane (CAS 2401-73-2; log Kow = 4.81) and 1-chloro-1,1,3,3,3-pentamethyldisiloxane (CAS 2943-62-6; log Kow = 6.36). These 3 constituents account for 7-24% of MS-Silane. The calculated log Kow of MS-Silane is based on the log Kow for each constituent and their mean contribution to MS-Silane. MS-Silane has a calculated log Kow of 1.48 and thus has low potential for bioaccumulation, and the requirement for testing is waived.

The following information is taken into account for any hazard / risk / bioaccumulation assessment:

Bioaccumulation: aquatic/sediment: Low potential for bioaccumulation.

Secondary poisoning

Assessment of secondary poisoning is not considered relevant for this substance because the rapid hydrolysis and the log Kow < 5 for the hydrolysis products indicate that bioaccumulation is not a concern.
