Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No data are available for the ready biodegradability of MS-Silane or its constituents. A ready biodegradability study is, however, available for the related substance trimethylsilanol. Trimethylsilanol is considered a close structural analogue of the hydrolysis product of several of the MS-Silane constituents. It is considered appropriate to read across to the ready biodegradability result for trimethylsilanol because the hydrolysis half-life of the chlorosilanes indicates that, under conditions relevant to the ready biodegradation test, hydrolysis to a silanol and HCl will occur. The properties of HCl are well characterised and further testing is not considered necessary. Biodegradation is not relevant, as HCl is inorganic.

The use of such read-across is supported by evidence that within a category of small molecule silicon-dominated organosilicon compounds, without reactive functional groups in the side chain, there is no evidence of any significant biodegradation in ready biodegradation tests (Data gap filling report for ready biodegradability of silicon-dominated substances PFA.151.004.022A).
