Description of key information

The substance does not dissociate protons based on its molecular structure. Hence an acetic dissociation constant cannot be provided.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

pKa at 20°C:
1.88

Additional information

Based on its molecular structure, the substance does not dissociate protons. Hence an acetic dissociation constant cannot be provided. Hypothetical replacement of the sodium atom by a hydrogen atom, yielding CAS 80 -16 -0, indicates a week acid, with a acetic dissociation constant pKa of 1.88. Since however solution of the sodium salt in water yields pH values above 10 (c.f., Chapter 4.20), the acidity of the hypothetical CAS 80 -16 -0 will have no impact on the acid/basic behaviour of the substance.
