Description of key information

In an algal toxicity study performed in accordance with OECD guideline 201 and GLP, Selenastrum capricornutum was exposed to Alimet at concentrations of 0 (control), 10, 18, 32, 58, 100 and 180 mg (active ingredient)/L (nominal) for 72 hours under static conditions. The low pH (3.7) of the test solution at 180 mg/L has a negative influence on the algal growth. Therefore a second test solution with adjusted pH at 180 mg/L was tested.
The ErC50 (72 hour), without pH adjustment, was determined to be 89 mg (a.i.)/L.
The ErC50 (72 hour), with pH adjustment, wasdetermined to be 130 mg (a.i.)/L.
The No-Observed-Effect-Concentration (NOEC) after 72 hours was calculated to be 58 mg (a.i.)/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
89 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
58
