Description of key information

In a 96-h acute toxicity study by Matsuura (2011), medaka (Oryziaslatipes) were exposed to B508 at nominal concentrations of 0 (dilution water control), 1.0, 2.0, 4.0, 8.0, 16 and 32 mg/L under semi-static conditions. 
The LC50 value was 0.76 mg/L (as calculated from measured TOC concentrations).
This toxicity study is classified as reliable with restrictions, because the results were calculated from measured TOC concentrations which are non-discriminative by nature.
In a 96-h acute toxicity study by Mizuguchi (2011), orange-red killfish (Oryzias latipes) were exposed to B508 at a nominal concentrations of 0 (dilution water control) and 1.50 mg/L under semi-static conditions. No effects clear were observed on fish mortality.
This toxicity study is classified as reliable with restrictions since the test concentrations were not confirmed by analytical measurements.

Additional information

The study from Matsuura (2011) was selected as key study since the concentrations were based on TOC measurements, while the study from Mizuguchi (2011) was based on nominal concentrations and is therefore less reliable. Furthermore the LC50 value from the study by Matsuura (2011) was lower.
