Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
160 mg/L

Additional information

The toxicity assessment towards microorganisms is based on the isomere substance Citral (CAS 5392-40-5).

In a respiration inhibition study conducted according to OECD Guideline 209 (Activated Sludge, Respiration Inhibition Test) the 30 min-EC20, -EC50, and -EC80 were determined to be ca. 68, ca. 160, and ca. 400 mg/L (nominal), respectively. In a further study conducted in accordance to International Standard ISO/DIS 8192 Part B. Water Quality - Test for inhibition of oxygen consumption of activated sludge, draft 1984, the 30 min-EC50 was determined to be ca. 200 mg/L (nominal). Furthermore a study investigating the respiration inhibition induced by the substance in Pseudomonas putida is available. After 30 minutes an EC50 of 2100 mg/l was determined.
