Description of key information

The test substance was found to be corrosive to skin and eyes of rabbits in skin and eye irritation/ corrosion studies (Industrial Bio-Test Laboratories 1969, acc.to OECD 404 and 405 respectively, no GLP).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin irritation / corrosion

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (corrosive)

Eye irritation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (irritating)

Additional information

Skin irritation/ corrosion

The test substance was tested for its skin irritation/ corrosion effects similarly/ equivalently to the OECD guideline 404. Six rabbits were applied with 0.5 mL of the undiluted test substance on shaved intact or abraded skin areas. Observations (scores determination) were made 24, 48 and 72 hours after application. A total irritation score of 8.0/8.0 for the intact and abraded skin was obtained, showing the corrosive effects of the test substance.

Eye irritation/ corrosion

The test substance was tested for its eye irritation/ corrosion effects similarly/ equivalently to the OECD guideline 405. Application of 0.1 mL of the undiluted test substance into the eyes of 6 rabbits and observation for up to 72 hours resulted in a mean score of 97 of max 110. Reversibility is not reported. The substance was determined to be corrosive to eyes of rabbits.
