Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The hydrolysis as a function of pH of the test item9-dodecenoic acid, methyl ester has been read-across from the substance 9-decenoic acid, methyl ester. The half-life of 9-decenoic acid, methyl ester at 25 ºC was determined to be > 1 year at pH 4 and pH 7. The rate constant at 25 ºC and pH 9 was determined to be 1.24 x 10-5 s-1 and the half-life at 25 ºC and pH 9 was determined to be 15.5 hours.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The hydrolysis as a function of pH of the test item 9-dodecenoic acid, methyl ester (9DDAME) has been read-across from the substance 9-decenoic acid, methyl ester (9DAME) from the following study.

Method

The determination was carried out using a procedure designed to be compatible with Method C7 Abiotic Degradation, Hydrolysis as a Function of pH of Commission Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 of 30 May 2008 and Method 111 of OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals, 13 April 2004.

Conclusion

The rate constant and estimated half-life at 25 °C of the test item are shown in the following table:

pH

Rate constant (s-1)

Estimated half-life at 25 °C

7

Read-across justification: A comparison of target substance (9DDAME) and the read-across substance (9DAME) shows that the two substances share structural similarities, increasing from a chain length of C10 to C12 with similar functional groups and also have ‘mechanistic action’ similarities.
