Based on ECOSAR v.1.11 (EPISUITE, 2012), the test substance, 3 -PPB, was predicted to have LC50 of 1.081 mg/l after 96 hours exposure to fish. In an acute fish toxicity study with benzyl benzoate (GLP compliant and to current guideline) the LC50 was determined to be 2.32 mg/l.

Based on the same computer program EPISUITE, the test substance, 3 -PPB, was predicted to have LC50 of 0.774 mg/l (baseline toxicity) after 48 hours exposure to Daphnid. In an acute aquatic toxicity study with benzyl benzoate, the LC50 was determined to be 4.8 mg/l.

In a new 21 -day chronic Daphnia magna study performed with benzyl benzoate, the NOEC and LOEC for reproduction was calculated to be 0.258 mg/L and 0.455 mg/L, respectively and the NOEC and LOEC for mortality was calculated to be ≥ 0.97 mg/L and > 0.97 mg/L, respectively.

The most sensitive species is algal according to the data from the benzoate chemical group. Therefore a new study with 3-phenyl propyl benzoate has been performed and the EC50growth rate and NOEC determined to be 0.30 and 0.14 mg/l, respectively.

The latter value is used in the environmental risk assessment.
