Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

ITC 288 decomposes at 640 K (i.e. 366.85°C) prior to melting

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
366.85 °C

Additional information

The melting point of ITC 288/S has been determined according the EU method A.1 of the Commission directive 84/449/EEC and the GLP.

The determination was carried out using the melting point apparatus with liquid bath. The test material was pulverised to a fine powder using a pestle and mortar and packed into a capillary tube to a filling level of approximately 3 mm. The tube was heated steadily by means of a silicone oil bath.

The conclusion reported in the test report is that ITC 288/S decomposes at 640 K (i.e. 366.85°C) prior to melting. However, based on the information provided in the test report, it is not clear if the bath liquid has been heated after the insertion of the sample tube as indicated in the EU method A.1. Instead, it seems that the sample tube has been inserted in the bath liquid at 635 K (361.85°C) and that the sample expanded immediatly.

Therefore this study should be considered as reliable with restrictions.
